About our Guides and Rangers

Our unit is very active, with meetings most weeks during term time, a week-long summer camp and other weekend camps during the year. We try to organise plenty of activities outside our hall, including bowling, a water sports evening in the summer, a trip to the pantomime and an annual outing to the Girl Guides Big Gig.

Badges and awards

Every year we arrange our meetings so that the girls can complete two Go For Its with their patrols which go towards their annual challenge badge. We also encourage all of our Guides to take interest badges and many go on to get their Baden Powell Challenge Award, the highest award that girls can achieve while in the Girl Guides section. Older girls often choose to do their Duke of Edinburgh Awards through the unit and recently one of our young leaders achieved the Queen’s Guide Award, which is the highest award any member can achieve within the Girlguiding movement.

Canoeing

Some of our Guides have become proficient in canoeing, as we try to arrange river-based training in the summer term at the Girlguiding centre at Paxmead, weather permitting!
